Is UGC Worth It for Small Businesses?
The honest answer for a small brand founder wondering whether UGC is a real lever or just a line item.

If you are running a small brand, every dollar has to earn its keep. So does UGC actually pay off at your size? Usually yes — with two conditions.
Condition 1: You have a paid media budget to run it against
UGC is fuel, not a distribution channel. If you have zero ad spend, one video will not save you. Even a few hundred dollars a month behind the right cut is enough to see whether it works.
Condition 2: You are willing to iterate
One video is a coin flip. Five variations from one creator is a real test. Small brands that treat their first UGC batch as data — not a launch commercial — pull ahead quickly.
What the ROI actually looks like
For most of the small brands I have worked with, the winning UGC ad ends up being three to five times more efficient than whatever they were running before. The lag is short: usually two testing cycles to find a hook that clicks.
When to wait
If you are pre-product, still figuring out your offer, or cannot afford a small test budget — wait. UGC does not fix a fuzzy offer. It amplifies a clear one.
