They get lumped together, but they are two different products doing two different jobs. Here is how to decide which one you actually need.

The short version: an influencer sells you access to their audience. A UGC creator sells you the content itself.

What influencers actually offer

You pay for the post to go on their feed, which reaches their followers with their implicit endorsement. The value lives in the audience trust. When the post ages out of the feed, most of the value is gone.

What UGC creators actually offer

You pay for footage you own and can run as paid media, on your channels, forever within the license terms. The value lives in the asset. It compounds every time your media buyer duplicates the ad set.

When to hire which

  • Launching a product and need cheap, testable creative for paid ads: hire UGC creators.
  • Trying to reach a specific niche audience with credibility: hire influencers in that niche.
  • Both, in the right order: UGC first to nail the creative, influencers second to amplify what already works.
